Inmates meet for counseling with each otherThe Certified Peer Specialist program at SCI Mahanoy currently has 29 Certified Peer Specialists. They meet weekly for training and supervision. SCI Mahanoy strongly believes in the CPS program, and the CPS workers are employed on all housing units, RTU's, the DTU and RHU, Infirmary, POC, as well as the library. During their weekly training, they engage in listening activities that help them practice their active listening and nonverbal communication skills while someone discusses a difficult topic. It also allows each of them to blow off steam about something they have been stressing about and receive support from their fellow CPS workers. At the end, they all provide constructive feedback to their group mates and then review the activity as a whole experience with the entire class.
