Pastor Nolkis Roman with an SCI Somerset employee as Roman holds her trophy for being Volunteer of the Year.

SCI Somerset welcomed volunteers for a banquet on the evening of March 13 to thank them for their service and dedication. It was a wonderful time of fellowship with the volunteers, who provide so much support to the inmate population. Volunteers do tremendous work and the level of dedication they have is remarkable.

Six inmates gave moving testimonials on their involvement with the volunteers and the impact they have on their lives. Each of the 25 volunteers in attendance received a plaque to show Somerset’s appreciation and thanks. Remarks and opening words of thanks were provided by Superintendent Kenneth Hollibaugh, and music was provided by an inmate band.

The 2024 Chaplain of the Year award was presented to Pastor Nolkis Roman.  Pastor Roman, who is the founder and senior pastor of Laborers of the Harvest International Ministries, first came to SCI Somerset in November 2010. She said she quickly fell in love with the mission of prison ministry.
