New CRS Training Already Proving Fruitful for Reentrants

​In 2023, the DOC began a Certified Recovery Specialist program through the Division of Treatment Services. The program gives incarcerated individuals the opportunity to earn a special certification and experience inside the walls that may be used upon release to secure a job.

Though the program is still new and expanding throughout the DOC, it has already proven fruitful: a reentrant recently released from SCI Huntingdon received a job offer from Gaudenzia in York thanks to the CRS training!

Shortly after hearing from the Huntingdon reentrant, another from SCI Cambridge Springs reported she got a full-time job offer from Pyramid within six days of being released. The organization was amazed she obtained certification while incarcerated. She has been working for a month now and is loving her new career. She said she couldn’t have done it without the support she received in the DOC and the opportunity to participate in the CRS training.
