On Feb. 21, SCI Rockview hosted the Leadership of Centre County for a tour of the facility. The tour included a look at a newer housing unit (I Block) and older housing unit (D Block) and finished with a meeting with an inmate at the chapel. The inmate discussed his crime, programming and growth in the DOC.
Leadership of Centre County’s mission is to educate participants about the needs, available services, strengths, opportunities, and current issues in the community, which is largely done through its 10-month Community Leadership Program. Among its events is an annual Criminal Justice Day.
The goal of Criminal Justice Day is to examine our criminal justice systems of law enforcement, courts, and corrections. On Criminal Justice Day, the group also toured the Centre County Correctional Facility, heard the stories of previously incarcerated individuals, and participated in a Criminal Justice panel with representatives from local courts, nonprofits, and police forces to gain a broader perspective of the criminal justice process from prevention to reentry.
