Four inmate organizations at SCI Dallas donated to purchase more than 400 poinsettias for local nursing homes and veteran facilities in December.

The Jaycees, Lifers, Latin American Cultural and Veterans Service Unit chipped in to pay for the donation, which has been a tradition for many years.  Joe Sahonick of the activities department and April Gromel of the greenhouse delivered the poinsettias to:

  • The Department of Veterans Affairs Hospital in Wilkes-Barre — 100 small poinsettias and one large one for the nurse’s station or front desk
  • Gino Merli Veterans Center — 150 small poinsettias and one large one for the front desk
  • St. Francis Commons Homeless Veterans Shelter — 25 small poinsettias and one large one for the front desk
  • Birchwood Nursing Home — 99 small poinsettias and one large one for the front desk
  • PAM Health — 20 small poinsettias
  • The Meadows in Dallas — 36 small poinsettias and one large one for the front desk

The flowers are from George Albright’s Glen Summit Floral in Mountain Top and sold to Dallas at cost.
