SCI Waymart’s #12MonthsofKindness team can now be hired as a confident construction crew — as long as it involves candy canes, fake snow, M&Ms and hot glue.
On Dec. 2, the volunteers gathered around 14 cutout cardboard houses and assisted the residents at Bethany Village Senior Living Community in creating gingerbread houses. Kim Erickson, activities director, set the Waymart team up in the craft area for a morning of gluing, laughter, ungluing and cake.
They were privileged to learn one of the residents, Lucy Webster, would be 105 years old on December 13. She was decorating right along with the best of them!
For its November project, the Waymart team had the privilege of working alongside members of Calvary United Methodist Church on Nov. 18. They set up and served 254 Thanksgiving dinners to anyone from the Waymart and surrounding communities who came in. All were welcome into the church social room to sit down for a bit of fellowship, take out a dinner or both if they preferred.
Waymart staff plan to continue this new tradition with another 12 Months of Kindness in 2024.
