Pennsylvania Correctional Industries supported Mercer County’s Ninth Annual Veterans Stand Down and Resource Fair on Oct. 26 by offering bags full of items to veterans — with all items being made by the incarcerated staff of PCI.

Each bag — which was made at SCI Greene and silk screened at SCI Huntingdon — included a towel, washcloth, golf towel, socks, hat, pillow, soap, pumice soap, and laundry soap. The pillows, which are waterproof and small, were made at SCI Dallas, while the socks, hats, towels and washcloths were made at SCI Phoenix. The soap was made at SCI Huntingdon.

Operations Manager Mindy Witmer partnered with the PA Department of Military and Veterans Affairs at this event to distribute the bags. Witmer — an Air Force veteran herself — loves meeting other veterans, and she planned to participate another event in Butler in November.

The veterans who attended were very appreciative of the products, and one even started to get emotional when he received his bag.
