After more than a decade-long hiatus, SCI Waymart and USP Canaan reignited the Waymart Bowl Black & Blue Game on Nov. 5 to support colleagues battling breast cancer.

The Waymart Bowl consisted of two football games — one for men and one for women — between staff members at the two institutions. All proceeds were given to several employees at both facilities battling breast cancer. USP Canaan won both games, with the women winning 31-0 and men winning a nail-biter, 7-6.

The Bowl was played for the first time in 2005 to support the family of SCI Waymart Officer George Pugliese after he was killed in action in Ar Ramadi, Iraq. In addition to raising funds for their colleagues and the PA Breast Cancer Coalition, the event increased camaraderie between the neighboring institutions.

Several more events are in the works in the coming months, including basketball, cornhole and archery.
