A guest speaker talks to inmates on the SCI Mercer VSU

Successful reentrant Casey Mullen visited SCI Mercer’s Veteran Services Unit on Dec. 6 to share his story and spread some hope.

Mullen overcame many obstacles to become a practicing attorney in Pittsburgh. He fought through addiction and incarceration to become who he is today. Called a failure, a junkie, an ex-con, and a criminal, he worked tirelessly not to allow those labels to define him. Through hard work, rebuilding trust and striving to reach his full potential, he graduated from law school, passed the bar exam and presently has his own law firm.

After sharing his story, Mullen fielded questions about reentry and his recipe for success. Several VSU participants raised their hands during the Q&A session just to thank Mullen for taking the time to visit and share his story with them.  Mullen stated that he enjoys the opportunity to share his story in the hopes that it will resonate with someone.
