On Nov. 9, SCI Muncy held its first Veterans Day service in the chapel. The service was organized by Veterans Service Unit Manager Celeste Brucklacher and Chaplain John Caudle, who served as master of ceremonies.

Muncy celebrated more than 200 veteran employees and 22 incarcerated veterans in a joint service with distinguished guests Brigadier General Michael Regan Jr., and Chief Master Sergeant Paul Frisco Jr. The SCI Muncy Honor Guard presented the colors, and Brucklacher sang the national anthem. Superintendent Wendy Nicholas opened the ceremony with the history of this significant day, and Regan spoke of numerous infamous female veterans throughout history. VSU Resident Dorothy read a poem entitled, “I am a Veteran,” followed by a moment of silence, and “Taps” played on a bugle provided by the Liberty VFW Post 6755. The ceremony concluded with the SCI Muncy Honor Guard (CO1’s Paul Dauberman, Luke Hunsinger, Ruth Napier, and Patricia Leigey) retiring the colors and light refreshments, including an American flag cake and patriotic cupcakes created by the Muncy Restaurant Trade Vocational Program and their instructor, Robert Wheeler.

Muncy also presented the newly designed PA DOC Veteran’s Appreciation coin and a certificate to all current veteran employees as a token of their dedication to the DOC and their country.
