Inmates on the SCI Mercer VSU watch a patriotic movie

SCI Mercer kicked off its Veterans Day activities with a special ceremony held on the Veterans Service Unit on Nov. 9. The theme chosen for this year’s ceremony was “No Man Left Behind.”

The VSU Color Guard posted and retired the colors, and several VSU participants contributed to the ceremony by conducting roll call on the unit; reading the VSU mission statement, In Flanders Field and the Marine Birthday Letter; providing opening remarks; and conducting the Pledge of Allegiance. Two guest speakers — Charles Beattie (Retired Sgt. Major USMC) and Ron Gilkey (USN) — provided inspiring presentations for the participants and staff. A video, Fulfilling the Promise of “No Man Left Behind,” documenting America’s commitment to bring all of her soldier’s home, made an impact on all who attended.
