SCI Mercer’s Veteran Services Unit held a ceremony on May 27 to celebrate, honor and remember those who have died defending this great nation. The ceremony consisted of the Pledge of Allegiance, an invocation, reading of the VSU’s mission statement, origins of Memorial Day reading and closing prayer all carried out by VSU participants.  The VSU’s Color Guard posted the colors and executed a flag folding.

The guest speaker, Richard Levander from Veteran’s Leadership Program, delivered a motivational speech about the importance of “finding your why” and having hope. Closing remarks were made by Veteran Services Unit Manager Tammy McGranahan. The colors, folded flag and a ceremonial wreath were displayed on the block for the remainder of the day. The ceremony was attended by all the Veteran Services Unit participants as well as administrative staff, unit managers and counselors.
