The Veteran Services Unit (VSU) at SCI Mercer hosted a donation drive where staff and VSU inmates supported the Liberty House for Homeless Veterans in Erie.  Donation boxes were placed in the lobby for staff and on the housing unit for the VSU inmates, and inmates were able to support the drive by purchasing items from the commissary to donate. Liberty House provided a list of specific items requested by their clients.

The donation drive started on May 2 and ended on May 23, when all donations were collected and delivered to Liberty House in observance of 143 day in PA.

Making the donation even more meaningful was the fact that the items were delivered to Liberty House Program Supervisor Chuck Giering — who paroled from SCI Mercer’s Veteran Services Unit on April 26, 2018.
