Four people holding puppies

Christmas came early at SCI Pine Grove this year as four new puppies arrived to join the TAILS program. York, Salty, Rolo, and Sirius are the newest pups in the Pine Grove program that works with New Hope Assistance Dogs Inc. to train future service dogs.

These puppies are extra special because Corrections Counselor II Tammy Delosh, DATSII Christina Smith, and retired IUP Professor Mary Jalongo took part in naming this litter.

York, Rolo and Sirius were names submitted by them for the litter because these pups were born on September 11:
  • York to honor New York City.
  • Rolo in recognition of those who fought back against the hijackers of United Airlines Flight 93, beginning their resistance when one passenger said “Let’s roll.”
  • Sirius in tribute to a Port Authority canine who died in the attack on the World Trade Center.
It was only fitting to have them named honoring the memory of that day.
