Puppy Programs
Dog training programs have been around for many years in prisons. For the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, it first started back in 2001, with Canine Partners for Life partnering with SCI Cambridge Springs.
There are many types of canine programs in PA ranging from inmates teaching socialization and obedience skills to shelter dogs, raising puppies to become service dogs for individuals with physical or cognitive disabilities, or even herding geese to maintain a cleaner facility. Whatever puppy program you encounter, you will be able to witness the benefits to the staff, inmates and community alike!
