Inmates at SCI Huntingdon walk around their track as part of a walk-a-thon fundraiser

SCI Huntingdon’s cancer support group, Remember What You Are Fighting For, hosted a Walk-a-thon at the facility with all proceeds being donated to Creating Hope and Making Progress (CHAMP).

At the event, 939 inmates walked for 2 hours and donated $2,392.12 to CHAMP. While the requested donation was only $3 per participant, many dug deep and donated beyond that amount.

CHAMP was born in 2015 in Huntingdon County when there were seven children in the community battling cancer together. Planet LoveJoy, a local non-profit, worked with teachers and students from Juniata Valley, Huntingdon, Southern Huntingdon, Mount Union and Juniata College to come together, unite, and dance to raise money for the kids and families. Nine years later, CHAMP is Central PA's largest high school student-run philanthropy event with six schools participating. To date, CHAMP has raised roughly $500,000 and helped more than 90 families. One hundred percent of all donations go to the families.
