The Friends of Raystown is a local volunteer group in Huntingdon County that works in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) on various projects at the Raystown Lake compound. Responding to a social media request for volunteers to assist in the construction and placement of fish structures, the SCI Smithfield Community Work Program reached out to USACE Park Ranger Alicia Palmer to offer assistance. On April 29, Corrections Labor Foreman Mark Snyder and a crew of 8 inmates reported to the Snyder's Run Public Access Launch ramp to assist the Friends Group, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers staff and community volunteers to construct 16 fish structures. The wooden structures were loaded onto the Corps' barge, where the inmates and volunteers assisted in placement of the fish structures along the shoreline in the vicinity of the Snyder's Run access area.

Local government, volunteer or non-profit organizations interested in services provided by the DOC's community work program in the Huntingdon area may contact Chris Garman, Corrections Classification and Program Manager at SCI-Smithfield, (814) 643-6520.
