Inmates listen to a guest speaker at SCI Camp Hill

On April 24, SCI Camp Hill hosted its annual National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW) event to educate inmates on the impact of crime. This year’s NCVRW theme is “How would you help? -- Options, services, and hope for crime survivors.”

More than 60 inmates requested to attend the voluntary event, which was held in the chapel. Speakers included Impact of Crime Class (ICC) instructors, Superintendent Gourley, Tanner Widdowson from the Office of Victim Advocate (OVA), and Ms. DiStefano, a crime victim-survivor.

DiStefano spoke eloquently about her experiences both during and since her victimization, as well as the challenges and triumphs of being a crime survivor. After telling her story, she graciously opened a dialogue with those in attendance, and many were eager to participate, offering their appreciation and gratitude for her and the other contributors both during and after the event. The event concluded with refreshments provided by Camp Hill culinary staff.
