The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections Central Office team recently gathered to celebrate the outstanding career of Executive Deputy Secretary Tammy Ferguson, who is set to retire on Nov. 25 after 28 years of dedicated service. The retirement potluck was a heartfelt tribute to a leader whose impact has been felt throughout the Department.
EDS Ferguson's journey in the Department of Corrections began in 1995, when she joined as a corrections officer at SCI Smithfield. She rose through the ranks, serving at five state correctional institutions, including as superintendent at SCI Benner Township, SCI Graterford, and SCI Phoenix. She also served at Central Office as the Department’s chief of security.
In 2020, EDS Ferguson reached another milestone in her career when she was appointed regional deputy secretary, before being promoted to executive deputy secretary for institutional operations earlier this year.
Regional Deputy Secretaries Marsh, Houser, and Oppman shared a handmade bowl that is carved with the names of the facilities where EDS Ferguson has served.
Prior to her remarkable tenure with the Department of Corrections, EDS Ferguson honorably served in the United States Air Force and the Pennsylvania Air National Guard.
Members of the DOC’s Bureau of Facility Security and Special Operations presented EDS Ferguson with a gift honoring her military service and service to the Department.
The retirement potluck included friends and colleagues – both past and present. As colleagues shared anecdotes and stories, it was clear that EDS Ferguson made a mark on those she worked with throughout the years.
