SCI Waymart Partners with PPL Electric Utilities for Training Opportunity

​On June 28, members of SCI Waymart’s Fire Emergency Response Team (FERT) and the maintenance department partnered with PPL Electric Utilities for a training opportunity. DOC staff learned how to keep themselves and others safe around power lines and other electrical components. A main component of the training was a 7,200-volt exhibit that PPL Electric created which featured live electrical wires, utility poles and transformers. Using ladders, gloves, shovels and other tools, trained PPL Electric staff recreated sparks, flames, smoke and crackling that occurs when those items, as well as tree branches and mylar balloons, come in contact with live electrical lines. PPL Electric also discussed the importance of calling 811 before digging.
