Evans, McIntyre Tour Waymart’s Education Department

Executive Deputy Secretary for Reentry Kelly Evans and Director of Reentry Coordination Daniel McIntyre toured Education Module 2 at SCI Waymart on July 14. James Mitchell, restaurant trades teacher, explained how the hydroponics system is enhancing the curricula for both NOCTI-ACF Cooks and NOCTI-ACF Commercial Baking. Students plant the seeds, care for the plants, and then use them as ingredients as well as garnishes for numerous dishes. The hydroponics system and seeds are paid for through Carl J. Perkins Funding at no cost to the DOC.
