This summer, Ethan Weaver was making a delivery to SCI Camp Hill as part of his job at AB Martin Roofing Company. As he drove behind the prison, he noticed the Manor House in the distance. The house is on the facility's property and was previously used by the human resources office. Though he figured it was a long shot, Ethan reached out to SCI Camp Hill to see if his father, Chester Weaver, and their family would be able to tour the Manor House — which was the Weaver family's childhood home.
The SCI Camp Hill administration graciously agreed.
Back in the 1930's, Chester Weaver, his sister, Bertha, and the rest of their family lived in the Manor House. Their parents rented the house from the state from 1929 to 1938. Chester's grandparents and other family members, along with some farm hands, lived down the lane in other state houses. Chester, now 92, and his sister Bertha, 89, were just toddlers when they lived in the house. Their children and grandchildren walked them through the Manor House, which is now vacant, as they recounted their memories and stories about living in that home. Their mother, Leah, died in the house at the age of 33, so this visit meant a lot to Bertha and Chester.
