Forest Superintendent Receives Vaccine with Inmate Who Lost Wife to COVID-19

It was a whirlwind Vaccine Week in the DOC, and one of the most special moments took place at SCI Forest.
Supt. Derek Oberlander received his COVID-19 vaccine alongside an inmate. The men talked during their shot and monitoring period, and the inmate revealed his wife passed away in March from complications of COVID-19. He is going home in September and wants to be there for his grandson, so he made sure to get his vaccine and is grateful for the opportunity.
Oberlander and the inmate received their shots together, bumped arms in support—then held a moment of silence in honor of the inmate's wife.
