Though many National Night Out events were cancelled throughout Pennsylvania due to COVID-19, Forty Fort chose to simply postpone it and create a Halloween event.
Pennsylvania parole staff from the Scranton District Office participated in this hybrid NNO/Halloween event by passing out approximately 100 pre-made bags of the Pennsylvania Parole Board's "Just Say No To Drugs" activity books, PPB pencils, junior agent sticker badges, child tattoos, Pepperidge Farms Gold Fish, M&M's, lollipops and a Chocolate Bar courtesy of Gertrude Hawks Chocolates in Kingston, PA.
Children were lined up at the Forty Fort Borough Building and marched in a Halloween parade to Betty Mascelli Park a few blocks away to the NNO event. Children marched into the park where police were set up with a DJ, pizza and pumpkin flashlights for the kids.
Along with the police and parole staff were representatives from Wyoming Valley Drug and Alcohol and a domestic violence counselor. Police and firefighters brought their vehicles to show the kids as well.
The event was a great opportunity for parole staff to positively interact with members of their local community. It was fun for the kids and adults alike, and safety was a focus with masks and social distancing when applicable.
