The Dallas garment
factory is one of seven garment factories throughout the State Correctional
Institutions. The DOC Garment Operations
produces clothing items for inmates and Correctional Officers as well as to
many State Agencies, County and Municipal customers.
Dallas
garments produces undershirts, aprons, pajamas, lab coats, patient gowns, cell
curtains, t-shirts, polo shirts, sweatpants, scarves and custom bags for DOC
and State Agencies. Custom embroidery
services are also available from SCI-Dallas.
Dallas also
manufactures mattresses, pillows and covers for both items. Volume for these products is approximately
20,000 to 30,000 annually.
Products are
sold to the DOC and Pennsylvania County Correctional Facilities, as well as
college, nursing homes and state hospitals.
Materials under contract include mattress cores, mattress ticking and
various textile products.
The factory
successfully added the Densified Polyester core mattress to their product line
in 2008 to produce a more comfortable, lower cost product after gaining
approval to add this item to the DOC Volume 10 approved furniture.
The factory
also produces cell trash can liners, privacy panels and shower curtains. There are currently 78 inmates employed in
the two factories at Dallas.
