This is religious and treatment services work in a program for the spiritual guidance and rehabilitation of patients, clients, residents, and inmates of state institutions. Employees in this class conduct an institutional chaplaincy program consisting of formal and informal religious work and participation in the rehabilitative programs of the institution or provide formal and informal religious work and management of religious resources of the institution. The conduct of an institutional chaplaincy program involves participation on the treatment/rehabilitation team, direct involvement in the evaluation of residents and the planning and conduct of individual, group, or family counseling as part of the formal treatment/rehabilitation plan. Work includes the conduct of worship services, special and ecumenical services, visitation with residents, and pastoral counseling. Work also includes the explanation of religious beliefs to staff members and methods for dealing with the religious problems or residents. Work is performed within the rules and regulations of the institution under the general direction of a higher-level chaplain or other administrative supervisor.

Job description:
This is professional vocational counseling work in providing employment and skills development opportunities to inmates in a state correctional facility. An employee in this job is responsible for recommending work assignments and vocational/technical training for the development and implementation of individualized treatment plans for inmates. Supervision may be exercised over Corrections Employment and Vocational Assistants and clerical staff. Work involves coordinating the utilization of inmate workers to fulfill the needs of facility's activities in a variety of occupational areas; identifying and resolving a variety of issues associated with screening and placing inmates into appropriate jobs due to the skills required in the job assignments, the limitations imposed by the inmates' physical and psychological conditions, and the impact of the inmates' prescriptive program plans on job placement; and recommending the creation of new inmate jobs and accompanying pay scales to ensure the support of the facility's activities and occupational requirements. Work also includes accountability for the facility's inmate payroll and compensation system by ensuring that inmate job assignments and payment for work performed are accomplished in accordance with agency policies and guidelines. Work is reviewed for effectiveness by an administrative supervisor through conferences and evaluation of results.

This is beginning level, professional counseling work in the care, treatment, and rehabilitation of persons within a drug and/or alcohol abuse treatment program in a state institution or facility. An employee in this class provides professional drug and/or alcohol rehabilitation services for inmates, patients or residents who have been diagnosed with or have a documented history of drug and/or alcohol abuse/dependency. Under the guidance and supervision of a higher-level professional, the incumbent initially performs work at the beginning level of professional counseling. Latitude in judgment is restricted until the incumbent begins to demonstrate an understanding of the processes and techniques used to rehabilitate inmates, patients, or residents with drug and/or alcohol abuse problems. The employee participates in drug and alcohol screenings, preparing case histories and records, assessments and orientations, parole/discharge/furlough planning, Community Corrections and local agency referrals and other related administrative duties. Work is reviewed by a higher-level professional through individual conferences.
Minimum Experience & Training:
One year of experience as a Corrections Counselor or Social Worker;

An employee in this class is responsible for directing and coordinating a comprehensive chaplaincy program at a state operated facility. Work includes the conduct of worship services, special and ecumenical services, visitation and consultation with patients/residents/clients/inmates, the conduct of religiously oriented classes and religious or pastoral counseling. An important aspect of the work involves the integration of chaplaincy services, both contractual as well as others, with multidisciplinary treatment team services and consistent with the needs of the patients/residents/clients/inmates and the facility. Work may include training and related supervision of students from affiliated schools who are enrolled in an informal or introductory clinical pastoral training program. Employees are responsible for evaluating need for and the adequacy of chaplaincy services provided, and the integration of the chaplaincy program into the total system of care, treatment, and rehabilitation. Supervision is exercised over facility clergy and/or direction is provided to assure that chaplaincy service providers perform services in accordance with contract provisions. Work is performed independently under the general administrative direction of a Mental Health Facility Superintendent, Mental Retardation Director, or Corrections Deputy Superintendent, within established policies and guidelines.
Minimum Experience & Training:
One year of pastoral experience in an institutional setting;

One year of formal chaplaincy training, e.g., clinical pastoral education or by the National Association of Catholic Chaplains; and a master's degree in Divinity, Theology or Pastoral Counseling.
