In honor of Women's History Month, the Department of Corrections will highlight some of the exceptional women who work for the DOC and the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole. We are grateful for the wonderful women who work in Pennsylvania's criminal justice system.

Anne Sommers
Human Relations Analyst 3
SCI Frackville

Anne Sommers started with the Department of Corrections in January 1994 as a dental hygienist at SCI Retreat. In May 2000, she left the Dental department and became a personnel assistant 2 at SCI Retreat, and then was promoted to human resources analyst in June 2001.

While continuing her employment at SCI Retreat, she was promoted to an HR Analyst 2 for employee training in July 2002. In December of 2005, she was promoted to HR Analyst 3 (Labor Relations) for both SCIs Retreat and Dallas.

Anne spent five years in Labor Relations until May 2010 when she left to become a hearing examiner for the Department of Corrections' Central Office. In August of 2013, she transferred to SCI Frackville as an HR Analyst 3, where she spent four years in Labor Relations.

In December 2017, Anne left SCI Frackville due to become a field human relations officer 3 at SCIs Retreat and Dallas. She then transferred back to SCI Frackville, in the same capacity, in February of 2018.

Anne provides a lot of knowledge about policies and procedures, and has a diverse work history in her 25 years in the DOC which add to the value of what she brings to the table. Anne is a mentor to her employees and all staff and is always there for guidance.  She is very detailed in her work practices and is one of the first people to volunteer assistance when needed. During the winter months, Anne is jet setting around the country most weekends, following her daughter, Gianna, who is the captain of the Central Michigan University Gymnastics team.

Michelle Zvorsky
Corrections Employment & Vocational Counselor
SCI Frackville

Michelle Zvorsky has worked for the DOC for 10 years. Her corrections career began when the DOC opened the Wernersville Community Corrections Center, where she served as a center monitor. As the center continued to operate, she became part of the management team there, taking on a role where she handled a variety of responsibilities, such as working to open the second building of the center. During this period, she has offered development of solutions that successfully provide assistance to reentrants as they leave the institution and reintegrate into society.

Michelle then transitioned to the DOC's Central Office where she worked as an Administrative Officer focusing on policy development for the Prison Rape Elimination Act. She also assisted in developing a Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Standards Crosswalk to assist the field in successfully navigating audit standards.

From Central Office, Michelle moved to focus her expertise and become the PREA administrative officer at SCI Frackville, where she was instrumental during her first year in successful audits for both ACA and PREA.

At Frackville, Michelle was quickly promoted to her current position of Corrections Employment & Vocational Counselor, where she again has shown to be effective in changing and streamlining the inmate employment process. In addition to her duties in these areas, Michele has also developed data bases and tracking systems for all inmate reentry documentation, and she runs the Reentry Services Office, thus bringing her career full circle back to serving the future reentrants in the department.

Robin Hopkins
Corrections Officer 2
SCI Frackville

Sgt. Robin Hopkins has been with the DOC since September 2007. She received a promotion to sergeant in May 2015 and subsequently applied for the 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. shift not long after, having achieved a bid position as utility sergeant.

While assigned to third shift, Robin gained a spot on the Hostage Negotiation Team (HNT) at SCI Frackville. She has been instrumental in gaining compliance from numerous inmates by using the tools she was taught through HNT and her own natural ways when dealing with someone.

Robin is a valued member of her shift and the facility as a whole.
