On Jan. 13, Gaudenzia DRC reentrants participated in a community Narcan training event.

Captain Davis and EMT Dowd from AR-2 and AR-3 gave a training on the use of Narcan, followed by an open discussion with DRC reentrants. Rev. Chester William with the Chew Belfield Neighborhood Club IMC Inc. along with Councilwoman Cindy Bass’ office were in attendance. The group was also joined with the Sheriff’s Department and Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Tobin.

Reentrants were engaged in an informative question and answer session about the use of Narcan, including how to identify a person who has overdosed.

Fire Department Capt. Davis gave an explanation about the different duties of a paramedic and an EMT, and he also gave an explanation on the AR-2 Unit responsibilities. Among those responsibilities is response to the Kensington section of the city for overdoses with a social worker or case manager to offer rehabilitation if the patient desires treatment. AR-3 is a Unit that responds to mental health crises and works directly with behavioral health with a case manager to address mental health crises.
