On May 18, staff from DOC field services attended a girls empowerment day called Tiaras, Crowns, and Pearls for Clemente Girls. The event was held at Roberto Clemente Middle School in the Juanita’s Park section of Philadelphia. More than 100 women were called upon to help enrich the lives of middle school girls by sharing personal stories and motivating words to promote promise and possibility. Volunteers created vision boards with the girls and provided encouraging words. It closed with volunteers — while wearing their own pearls/tiaras — adorning the girls with pearls and tiaras symbolizing the power they possess within. Pearls and tiaras were donated by volunteers.
