PA Senator Visits Mercer VSU

On April 18, SCI Mercer welcomed the Majority Chair of the Veteran’s Affairs Committee PA Sen. Doug Mastriano for a tour of the facility and a visit to the Veterans Service Unit (VSU). The VSU hosted a presentation that included DOC Veterans Services Coordinator Mike Carrington, representatives of the PA Dept. Of Military and Veterans Affairs and local American Legion, along with the DOC’s Office of Policy and Legislative Affairs. The group heard from the inmates regarding the positive environment that is brought to them via the dedicated staff.
Mercer’s VSU is one of five housing units across PA dedicated specifically to veterans as they prepare for reentry, and it was recently approved to become an official American Legion post.
