Mercer Inmate Organization Hosts a Turkey Trot

SCI Mercer’s inmate organization hosted a Turkey Trot and hygiene fundraiser to raise money for the Grove City Food Pantry in November to help provide meals to the community this holiday season.

The Inmate Activities Committee (IAC) was able to give the pantry $3,500 as a combined donation from the general population fundraiser, the Trot and from the IAC. Collectively, 28 inmates participated in the modified 10K Turkey Trot on Nov. 5 and Nov. 12. Tracy Gerard from the Grove City Food Pantry received the check on Dec. 13 and expressed just how grateful and appreciative she was to receive it. The IAC has also donated $1,500 to the Keystone Charter School, $500 to the Children’s Aid Society, and $500 to the Community Food Warehouse’s Backpack Program to help with holiday expenditures.
