Beginning in late 2021, a group of commissioned officers and field experts from various institutions and work locations were tasked with taking the existing Commissioned Officer Developmental Training and revitalizing it into a more meaningful and relevant course. Commissioned staff are trained in topics most important to their new roles as managers, including investigations, inmate grievances, mail procedures, and the roles and responsibilities of a commissioned officer. The course is required for lieutenants, captains and majors.  It was redone because it had gone virtual, and it became stale and less relevant in that format. Experts in a variety of topics worked for months to provide updated meaningful material and training to commissioned staff. Staff completing this training have voiced they now feel prepared and energized for their newly promoted roles. The first official class under the new training graduated in October (above) while a pilot class graduated in July (below).
