DOC Acting Sec. Little Speaks at International Corrections and Prisons Association Conference

Pennsylvania Department of Corrections Acting Secretary George Little was invited to present at the International Corrections and Prisons Association's (ICPA) annual conference. Acting Secretary Little was joined by Dr. Jordan Hyatt from Drexel University and Martin Gillå, head of the Office for International Affairs with the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, to share how the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections is working to implement Scandinavian correctional policies and practices within a special unit at SCI Chester.

Launched earlier this year, the goal of Little Scandinavia at SCI Chester is to learn from the Scandinavian model and create a safer, more humane prison environment that focuses on rehabilitation. The incarcerated residents of Little Scandinavia have access to a communal kitchen, a landscaped green space, and radically redesigned cells, furniture, and common areas.
