SCI Laurel Highlands held its annual Day of Responsibility on Oct. 5 with 63 inmates participating. Numerous staff members from Laurel Highlands were also in attendance, as well as guests from SCI Somerset, Bedford County Jail and Your Safe Haven in Bedford County.

Representatives from the Office of the Victim Advocate were on hand to present information regarding the mission of their office. They also informed inmates about the Inmate Apology Bank, including information on its purpose, procedures, and how they can take part in this program.

Speakers for the day included Coni Shrader and Barbara Shoop, who both shared their journey with the group, then allowed time for questions and discussion. The day concluded with a multimedia presentation, followed by a discussion period which focused on lessons learned from the day.

From all accounts, the day was a success, with many inmates relating lessons that they learned and how they can apply them to their lives when they return to their families.
