SCI Coal Township hosted a “Hoops for a Cure” basketball tournament from May to July to support Camp Koala and raise awareness for mental health. With the support of the Coal Township staff and inmate community, inmate volunteers and referees, Certified Peer Specialists and supervisors, Triumph Organization, activities department, Lifeline Organization, and administration, $4,027 was raised to donate to Camp Koala.

Camp Koala holds bereavement camps and support groups at no charge to local hospitals, hospices, community organizations, and schools for grieving children and teens who have experienced a death.

This money was raised by the entrance fee to the “Around the World” shootout and 5-on-5 basketball teams, along with a Tastykake sale, and donation from both Triumph and Lifeline. The volunteers and champions were awarded a pizza party hosted by Triumph.
