SCI Rockview welcomed representatives from the PA Department of Agriculture and Team Pennsylvania Foundation for a visit to the Rockview farm. They were joined by DOC Deputy Secretary for Reentry Kelly Evans, Director of Reentry Coordination Daniel McIntyre and Workforce Development Specialist Dorenda Hamarlund.
The SCI Rockview farm provides the incarcerated population with solid training in farming, which they can use to start a career upon reentry. They also learn about agricultural system and acquire skills in animal husbandry, equipment operation and crop production. The farm grows crops which are sold to provide revenue for the farm, as well as for feeding the livestock. It also grows vegetable and forage crops to feed the animals, who are used as a source of meat for staff and inmates.
