Pine Grove FERT Trains at Local Fire School

The SCI Pine Grove Fire Emergency Response Team (FERT) conducted live fire training at the Indiana County Fire School in Homer City. Team members went over the uses of their breathing apparatuses while they conducted a training for right-handed searches in the smoke house. The smoke house was full of smoke and very dark, and it included several obstacles to teach FERT members how to remain calm while searching and how to use communication skills under pressure. It also taught members how to use their other senses such as feeling and hearing to get through the course without being able to see. They then went over car and dumpster fires and how to properly put them out while working in two-person teams.
