Every year on March 21, people all over the world celebrate World Down Syndrome Day – a global opportunity to raise awareness about Down syndrome and showcase ways people with Down syndrome make the world a better place. Down syndrome is also known as trisomy 21 because people with Down syndrome have a third copy of their 21st chromosome, hence the celebration on March 21, or 3/21. The idea of "Rock your Socks" was born from the chromosomes themselves, which are shaped a bit like socks.

To celebrate and raise awareness, people are encouraged to wear their brightest socks — and medical personnel at SCI Waymart were happy to participate.
