On the last Monday of each month for the past five months, SCI Huntingdon staff have volunteered to help distribute food to local veterans via the Military Share Program.

The Military Share Program, provided through the Central PA Food Bank, began in 2015 and was established in Huntingdon in 2018. The program currently feeds 145 families. This program provides 50-60 lbs. of food to active-duty personnel, veterans, and military spouses.  Volunteers from the Huntingdon Standing Stone VFW 1754 and Huntingdon Legion Post 24 have been assisting with this program since its inception, and many local churches and private donors also support the program financially.

SCI Huntingdon’s inmate organization, Alter Rock Jaycees, also donated $2,000 to the Veteran’s Food Bank program. Reeder Swartz, the local food bank administrator, is very pleased with the progress of this program and stated the program makes a real impact on the lives of veterans and their families.
