Terri Fazio, chief of education in the DOC, was recognized as Region 1 Board Member of the Year by the Correctional Education Association (CEA) at its annual conference in Cape May, NJ. Fazio was recognized for her exceptional service to correctional education.

"Terri represents PA Corrections in a professional manner and brings with her the insight and positivity that allows us to focus on best practices for educating those in our care and custody," Deputy Secretary of Reentry Kelly Evans said. "She seeks input from staff and administration, and this award is well deserved."

Fazio has worked for the DOC for 31 years, beginning as an adult basic education teacher at SCI Waymart. She transitioned to the school principal and public information officer before moving to Central Office as a staff assistant in 2014. She became Director of Correction Education (now Chief) in 2016.

Fazio has worked with CEA since the early 1990's and became a member of the Region 1 Board in 2014. She was elected to serve as a Standards Commissioner while representing the CEA National State Board of Directors in August.

While humbled and honored by the award, Fazio redirected the spotlight and emphasized it's all about the work of her amazing employees in the education division and all they do for the inmate population.
