Benner Township Inmates Donate to Support Community During COVID-19

SCI Benner Township staff would like to recognize and highlight the inmates of Benner Township for donating $5,670 to COVID-19 relief in communities across Pennsylvania during April and May 2021. One hundred percent of proceeds were donated to organizations that help struggling families and individuals with balanced meals and other necessary essentials.

Four community organizations were selected to receive funds:

  • Pedal for Peace in York: Pedal for Peace is a diverse group of bike riders who work to break down barriers and combat violence through biking and bike-oriented activities Pedal for Peace has served urban communities in more than 19 states and three continents.
  • Flood City Youth Fitness Academy in Johnstown: This organization serves as a community learning center in the heart of downtown Johnstown that provides students with academic enrichment opportunities along with a plethora of fitness activities designed to complement students' in their academic studies.
  • State College Food Bank in State College: The State College Food Bank has a mission to provide food security, directly or indirectly, to people in Centre County, thus ensuring that no one in Centre County goes hungry regardless of age, race, color, ancestry, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, creed or disability.
  • Washington City Mission in Washington: The Washington City Mission is an organization providing recovery, transformation, and restoration in the lives of the homeless on their journey to independent living. They facilitate this transformation by providing food, shelter, case management, counseling, life-changing programming, as well as specializing in service to our veterans.

Although SCI Benner Township's inmates are incarcerated, they have embraced the challenge to facilitate positive change in the community during these uncertain and trying times. To all the inmates who donated to COVID-19 relief at Benner Township, we offer our collective "thank you!"
