July 18-24 is Pretrial, Probation and Parole Supervision Week, and to celebrate we will be highlighting exceptional parole agents or offices in the DOC. Check back each day for a new feature celebrating the excellent parole staff in Pennsylvania.

On June 30, 2021, Parole Agent Gino Runco acted with distinction, compassion and in the best interest of public safety.

After receiving a disturbing email from a reentrant, Agent Runco conducted a home visit. Agent Runco found the reentrant suffering from severe hallucinations as well as chronic medical issues. The reentrant made statements about killing himself.

Agent Runco contacted Schuylkill County Crisis Intervention and his supervisor.  Schuylkill County Crisis Intervention assessed the reentrant at the scene and recommended for Agent Runco to take the reentrant to the hospital for a possible psychiatric commitment. Agent Runco transported the reentrant to the hospital and remained there until the reentrant was successfully accepted as a psychiatric commitment.

Agent Runco's professional handling of this case ensured the reentrant received the appropriate medical and mental health treatment. His actions also helped keep the public safe by deescalating a potentially volatile situation and getting the reentrant the help they needed.
