​DOC Employee Spotlight

Beginning the week of November 16, Department of Corrections officials will highlight a different employee group each week through the end of the year as a way of showing appreciation for the great work done by employees every day. This year has brought unprecedented challenges and changes, yet DOC staff continues to rise to meet the moment and work hard to keep DOC facilities safe. Below is a look at who was highlighted each week, along with how different facilities honored those groups.

Food Service, Reception, Inmate Employment Clerical and Administrative Staff (Dec. 28-Jan. 1)

Facility Employee Recognition
AlbionRecognized staff each day with a Certificate of Appreciation signed by Superintendent Clark. Employee’s Association continues to have daily drawings for cash prizes of $100 and a $500-gift package winner once each week.
Camp Hill SCI Camp Hill food service employeesThanked employees in an email that also explained the role each of this week's honored departments plays in the facility and shared photos.

​Each honored employee was given a hand-written thank-you card from the Administration along with a Dunkin Donuts gift card from the Employee Recreation Association.  Also, these staff members received an email expressing Frackville leadership's gratitude for their commitment and a job well done.

AlbionRecognized staff each day with a Certificate of Appreciation signed by Superintendent Clark. Employee’s Association continues to have daily drawings for cash prizes of $100 and a $500-gift package winner once each week.  On Christmas Day, they will draw a name for a Door Prize worth $800!

​​Shared an email of appreciation recognizing honored employees and highlighting what they do, and encouraged staff to thank and support them. Also raffled off a box of cookies for one lucky employee.

FayettePrincipal sent a letter of thanks to education staff.
Frackville
SCI Frackville Library StaffEach honored employee was given a hand-written thank-you card from the Administration along with a Dunkin Donuts gift card from the Employee Recreation Association.  Also, these staff members received an email expressing Frackville leadership's gratitude for their commitment and a job well done.
GreeneRecognized staff this week by hosting a food truck and permitting staff to bring in food to their work stations. Employees Association gave out gift cards to selected staff.  
Huntingdon

Laurel HighlandsSent an article recognizing and thanking honored employees. Announced the winners of raffles held during this whole recognition event, and held a special lunch on Dec. 24.

The winner will receive a cup, $25 coupon for Employee’s Association merchandise, $20 Wawa gift card and $10 cash. In addition, Phoenix leadership handed out sticky-buns and hot chocolate to  staff.

Recognized staff each day with a Certificate of Appreciation signed by Superintendent Clark.  Albion's Employee’s Association is supplying a great meal on Dec. 16 for all three shifts with the food being catered by a local restaurant.  They also continue to have daily drawings for 3 cash prizes of $100 and 1 - $500 gift package winner once each week.
Cambridge Springs
​Shared an email of appreciation detailing what parole and reentry employees do, and encouraged staff to thank and support them. Also raffled off a box of cookies for one lucky employee.

Laurel Highlands Shared an article with pictures of parole staff, and leadership donated their parking spaces to nominated parole employees to say "thank you."
Mahanoy​Recognized this week’s staff with a banner in the entrance area as well as presenting all staff with $10 gift cards. 
MuncyHonored staff by drawing names from parole and reentry to win parking spaces, cash or a gift card. Supervisors wrote a note for the whole facility recognizing their employees.

Employees being recognized this week were nominated by their peers and received a Certificate of Appreciation for going above and beyond their duties during the pandemic.  These are signed by the Superintendent and awarded daily.  Also, due to not having the annual employee Christmas party, the Employees Association sponsored cash giveaway by pulling 3 names daily from Dec. 1-31 with each employee drawn winning a cash prize. 
​Cambridge Springs
Sent a message of thanks and detailing the important role these employees play in Cambridge Springs. Leadership raffled off fresh cupcakes for an employee working in these departments.
Camp Hill

Dallas
A flier at SCI Dallas thanking staffHonored treatment staff by hanging fliers within the departments and the ODR. To go along with a special cake made to thank these departments, seasonal pumpkin pie, bags of chips, prepackaged muffins, cookies, and trail mix were also placed in the ODR for all to enjoy.
Frackville SCI Frackville treatment and mental health staffEach honored employee was given a hand-written thank-you card from the Administration along with a Dunkin Donuts gift card from the Employee Recreation Association.  Also, these staff members received an email expressing Frackville leadership's gratitude for their commitment and a job well done.
GreeneRecognized staff this week by the Employees Association purchasing Krispy Kreme donuts and distributing boxes of them to staff throughout the institution on Monday.

Security and Maintenance Staff (Nov. 23-27)

Key Roles: Corrections officers (ranging from corrections officer trainees to majors); parole agents; community corrections center monitors; transport officers and agents; mailroom staff; training staff; perimeter patrol staff; facility maintenance staff.

AlbionStaff is being recognized/nominated by peers and receiving a Certificate of Appreciation for going above and beyond their duties during the pandemic. These are signed by the superintendent and awarded daily.  At the end of the week, assorted cookies will be provided for all shifts courtesy of Albion's Empowerment Committee.
Cambridge SpringsSent a message of thanks and support to the group recognized and held drawings for employees to win cookies. In lieu of "dress down days," since this group can't dress down, they were allowed to wear their favorite baseball cap with their uniforms.
Camp Hill
Uniformed staff were permitted to wear a ball cap or watch cap in support of  their favorite team/sport through Dec. 5.
Chester
​Allowed staff to bring food in to their work place. Recognized staff by hanging a "thank you" banner in the front lobby. Shared an email thanking them. 
​Coal Township
Sent a message of support and thanks to staff and provided sheet cakes in the staff dining room as a show of appreciation.
Dallas
Enlarged flyers were placed within the facility highlighting the specific departments along with the ODR. Additionally, the FSI’s were able to bake a beautiful cake for everyone to enjoy. To go along with the cake, a special “thank you” treat was placed on the ODR line that consisted of cinnamon swirled French toast.
Frackville
Each security and maintenance staff was given a hand-written thank-you card from the Administration along with a Dunkin Donuts gift card from the Employee Recreation Association. The cards were delivered throughout the week by Administrative Staff/Shift Commanders.  Also, each staff member received an email from Major of the Guard Theodore Carter expressing gratitude for a job well done.

​Shared a message of appreciation and a presentation full of photos and details about the facility's security staff.
Greene
Recognized staff this week by hosting a food truck from the Southside of Pittsburgh Monday and permitting staff to be relieved from posts to enjoy.  
Huntingdon

Mercer
Security, maintenance and mailroom staff had an open gate for food this week, and names were drawn for parking spaces. Bags with cookies and a thank-you note were distributed, a long with daily emails thanking staff and a section of the main ramp will be decorated with employee names and notes of encouragement from coworkers. There was also a gift card drawing at the end of the week.
Muncy
Recognized the group with special emails sent from people in these areas to talk about the contributions and work these departments do on a daily basis.  They also enjoyed a pound cake for the staff, and awarded parking spots and prizes to members of this honored group.
Phoenix
A staff appreciation banner has been displayed by the staff entrance commemorating a celebration of the week. The Employee’s Association, Mentoring Committee and Empowerment Committee will sponsor a random drawing of the celebrated staff. The winner will receive: one cup, $25 coupon for Employee’s Association merchandise, $20 Wawa gift card and $10 cash. In addition, Superintendent Sorber, Deputy Terra, Major Terra and Captain Cavalari handed out sticky-buns and hot chocolate, made by our culinary department.

Medical and Dental Staff (Nov. 16-20)

AlbionMedical/dental personnel recognized as Employee of the 4th Quarter.
Benner TownshipShowed appreciation to staff working in medical/dental by having homemade cinnamon rolls delivered to staff working in these areas. Members of administrative staff shared words of appreciation.
Cambridge SpringsWrote an article honoring medical/dental staff and is holding a raffle for medical/dental personnel to win a box of cookies.
Camp Hill
A nurse at SCI Camp HillWrote an article honoring medical/dental staff.

​Allowed staff to bring food in to their work place. Recognized staff by hanging a "thank you" banner in the front lobby. Shared an email thanking them. 
Coal Township
Shared fruit and vegetable trays and water bottles with the medical/dental departments.
Dallas
Hung flyers in the ODR along within the medical and dental department thanking medical/dental staff. Two cakes and cookies were specially made to show  appreciation for all the hard work that medical/dental do. The cakes and cookies were placed in the ODR for all shifts to enjoy.

Frackville
Each medical/dental employee will be given a hand-written thank-you card from the administration along with a Dunkin Donuts gift card from the Employee Recreation Association. The cards were delivered throughout the week by administrative staff.  Also, each medical/dental employee will receive an email expressing the administration's gratitude for a job well done.
GreenePermitting medical/dental staff to bring in food to their work place during the week and sending them special snacks from the dietary department.  
Huntingdon
A banner at SCI HuntingdonRecognized medical/dental staff by placing a banner above the front gate that says "Thank You Medical Department and Dental Staff!" Additionally, pizza was purchased for all shifts for medical/dental personnel on Monday.
Laurel Highlands A nurse at SCI Laurel HighlandsWrote an article honoring medical/dental staff thanking them for their hard work. As a small token of appreciation and thanks, the administration donated their parking spots so that medical/dental individuals (who were nominated by their peers) could park there for the week.
Mahanoy
Placed a banner near the employee entrance thanking them for their efforts, and shared an email to staff recognizing them. All medical and dental staff will also be receiving a $10 Amazon gift card presented by administrative staff.

​Shared an message of support for medical/dental staff, and awarded administrative/manager parking spots to medical/dental staff for the week.

Quehanna
An inmate created a poster to hang in the main lobby that was updated each week with the departments being honored. Every employee received a $5 Sheetz gift card in their respective weeks, and the facility is holding a raffle and 50-50 drawing. They also had a special meal every Friday to honor that particular department being spotlighted.
Waymart
Sent an email acknowledging and thanking medical/dental staff and shared two photo collages of the departments.
