DOC employs 15,000 employees and is responsible for over 36,000 inmates.
County prisons in Pennsylvania are not under the jurisdiction
of the DOC.
Parole decisions are under the jurisdiction of the Pennsylvania Parole Board.
Prison Emergencies
Register to receive e-mail, text and/or phone notifications of a major emergency at a Pennsylvania state prison via the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Alert System: Code RED.

Citizens who do not have internet access should contact the Critical Incident Manager at the nearest state prison. The Critical Incident Manager will take their information and then enter it into Code RED.
